research

This project emerged as part of the PhD research Architectural Interventions (of Exhibitions): Encountering heritage by an architect, curator and researcher, Milica Božić. REDI has received funding from RMIT University and other 20+ academic and industry partners involved in its implementation. This project is developed under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska such interventions in both temporary exhibitions and pavilions that remain permanent in the city, contributing to evolving heritage narratives.

Centring around the Venice Biennale of Architecture, the Triennale Milano, and the MPavilion, the differences in heritage environments in Italy and Australia create distinct exhibition responses. Heritage concerns within these three sites are explored through exhibitions and pavilions (re)produced in public gardens, revealing how politics, cultures, national identities, public engagement, and more are negotiated in these contexts on a broader scale.

In the process, Milica brings historical and practice research through a multi-method approach. This happens by tracing the concepts and philosophies of heritage, exhibitions, pavilions, and the histories of the chosen sites, while also conducting interviews with associated experts. These insights inform a spatial and temporal practice generated throughout the PhD that proposes considering heritage beyond preservation, through open-ended and experimental temporary encounters.

Milica’s research  is developed under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme REDI under the Marie Skłodowska–Curie grant agreement No 101034328. It is a part of double-degree PhD REDI program between Politecnico di Milano and RMIT University . REDI has
received funding from RMIT University and other 20+ academic and industry partners involved in its implementation.

The research is supervised by Professor Suzie Attiwill (RMIT University), Professor Annunziata Maria Oteri (Politecnico di Milano) and Professor Mariacristina Giambruno (Politecnico di Milano).
