Heritage Coexistence Part 3: Milano
for Milano Arch Week
Inequalities and Architecture
Heritage Coexistence Part 3 featured a conversation among Shuai Paolo Peng, Danny Casprini, and Milica Božić, surrounded by Paolo's artworks at Nodo Bar during Milano Arch Week 2025: Inequalities and Architecture, organised by Triennale Milano, Politecnico di Milano, and Comune di Milano.
The event began with sharing the tea that Paolo's grandma made in China, which served as a warm welcome. We talked with the audience about what heritage coexistence means to each of us and how we can create shared understandings of it and learn from one another.
As the title of this edition is Heritage Coexistence Part 3: Milano, Milan is the place where the encounter takes place, and the conversation kept circling back to Milan. We discussed the topic of multi-layered heritage and multiplicity of values when we “read” art and cultural products or observe cultural practices. And what roles cultural industries can play in these heritage encounters, and how contemporary practice can help to bridge what we call the past, the present and the future, across spaces, time and artefacts. Together, we considered heritage coexistence across the arts, architecture, law, culture, and politics, and how bringing these fields into dialogue creates new values. Coexistence emerged in this open-ended conversation, in Paolo’s artworks, and through linking stories and perspectives, to shape a shared understanding of heritage as a practice and a process in the present.
